Murphy River Walk

Murphy River Walk & Canoe Trails

This past Sunday was a beautiful cool and crisp morning for a stroll along the River Walk in Murphy. The Murphy River Walk takes you through many natural environments that surround the historic downtown. From Konehete Park, the trail takes you along the Valley River to where it meets the Hiwassee River and lake backwaters. This area has open meadowland, marshy wetland, hardwood forest and rock cliffs. The trail takes you to the Old L&N Depot and then into town. The River Walk was constructed with respect to its natural environment and its host of native plants and wild life. The trail is approximately 4 miles long. There is also a Canoe Trail that takes you along the banks of the Valley & Hiwassee Rivers. The shallow waters offer unique opportunities to paddle along the river, inlets and to observe the birds, wildlife and fish species otherwise not seen from the walking trail.
